EVENTS // SCSMF SPORTS AWARD 2024 PRESENTATION CEREMONY

In memory of Late Sharad Chandra Shaha, the SCSMF Sports Award 2024 presentation ceremony was organized on June 23rd 2024 at Hotel Royal Singi, Kamaladi, Kathmandu.

Legendary marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar and the first-time Karate silver medalist in the Asian Games for Nepal, Arika Gurung were both honored with this award which consists of the highest prize money on its category of Rupees Two Lakh and Fifty Thousand.

The three times gold medalist at the South Asian Games, Baikuntha Manandhar expressed that he was proud to have been honored with this award on the very first year of its distribution. Manandhar reflected “The contribution made by Late Sharad Chandra Shaha to the development of sports in Nepal is incomparable. His tenure is remembered as the golden age of Nepalese sports.”

Arika Gurung also expressed that she counts herself fortunate to have received the award and said that the award will serve as motivation to continue pushing herself to achieve excellence in her endeavors.

Apart from being the International Olympic Day, June 23 is also the birth day of Sharad Chandra Shaha. His wife, Ms. Renu Shaha who is also the chairperson of SCSMF revealed that the foundation has been conducting different programs in memory of the contributions made by Late Shaha. She also mentioned that every year SCSMF Sports Award will be presented to the deserving individuals who have strived for excellence in sports and has brought glory to Nepal.
